I've been talking with Jade and Rosalind in the other post for a while, they both prefer chat in English. I know it's actually quicker typing in English sometimes. Just feel sorry for 半个月亮 as we've been talking something out of the theme in her post.
I know there are lots of people coming from everywhere of the world on ICHENKUN, so I just set up this post, is for all the people who want to talk with each other in English. Pls feel free coming to join us, say whatever you want to say.:P

Anyway it's a good chance for us to practise, learn and develop our EN language skills. Welcom!!:pj_040

I'll send my MSN address to you by message in a minute, as I couldn't do it with my computer. My computer isn't working well, due to Mirosoft's action. I have to go to the living room to turn on the other one, just be more patient pls. :P

Ah, so excited to see lots of replies here! Thanks girls, Pls have fun!!!:loveliness:

Actually my grammar is terrible too. :$ With communicating English(oral), I don't think we have to worry about grammar too much, as long as we can understand each other. But as long as we practise more, we'll get more improvement. It doesn't really matter to make mistakes here. No one is perfet, you will never be able to develop if you never try, just give yourself more opportunities to do, and be more brave, just like what I'm doing, that's it!

It is the same theory that we always encourage children to explore, investigate and experiment the environment, so they will be able to learn and develop the skills in all the aspects (it's one of the points of my personal teaching philosophy).  :D

Thanks Ziggi for this brilliant idea!  I guess most of the fans of Aloys (Chen Kun) exchange ideas in Chinese/Putonghua.  To me, it's a very good channel to learn Chinese from the native speakers.  However, some of them may like to practice their English through daily communication.  Therefore, having iChenKun a multi-lingual forum will possibly attract fans
from the world to visit this website more frequently.

Let's chat more, in the way you like....   :)

Actually,my mejor in university is Spanish.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Spanish is very similar with English I think. I know a spanish song which has lots of words sound like English words. The song called MI CUERPO (My body), have you ever heard about it?

Mi cuerpo, mi cuerpo, hace musica. Mis ma nos hacen, mis pies hacen, mi bo ca hace'la, la, la', mi cuerpo hace cha, cha cha.

Is it the right writing? The English version of the song is:

My body makes music, it'e easy you will see. My hands, my hands go(clap, clap), my feet my feet go(stamp, stamp), my mouth my mouth goes"la, la, la", my body does the cha, cha, cha.

Bingo! It is for children, what a good guess.:D ictory: Because I'm studying Early Childhood Teaching, so I've learnt lots of songs for children. Most of them are English songs, but some of them are different languages, like Spanish, Japanese...I love all of them, especially there's a song called PUFF THE MAGIC DRAGON, it's just so beautiful, even though it's a bit sad, but the tune is so beautiful. I actually dreamed that one day Aloys would sing this song, it would be fantastic!!

Puff the magic dragon lived by the sea,
and frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honalee.
Little Jackie Paper loved that rascal Puff,
And brought him strings and sealing-wax and other fancy stuff.

Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sail;
Jackie kept a look-out perched on Puff's gigantic tail.
Noble kings and princes would bow whenever they came,
Pirate ships would lower their flags when Puff roared out his name.

A dragon lives for ever, but not so little boys.
Painted wings and giants' rings make way for other toys.
One grey night it happened--Jackie Paper came no more,
And Puff, that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.
His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain;
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane.
Without his lifelong friend Puff could not be brave,
So, Puff, that mighty dragon, sadly slipped into his cave.

Puff the magic dragon lived by the sea,
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honalee.

WOW,i haven't heard about the song.
The first spanish song i've heard is Por que te vas(why do you leave).
I don't konw anything about spanish before entering the university, hehe
At the beginning I really think it's very difficult (specially the grammar )and i woudn't master it.
And now, already I could communicate well with people whose native language is spanish~~
As you said above, spanish is similar with spanish. For ex:language(lengua)diccionary(diccionario)……ect
A foreign teacher said that English don't have anything themselves only copy from Latin, Arabe and other language|||||||||
In fact,la lengua espanyola also have palabras from other languages as Arabe and  old Latin.
Emmmm……
When i was a middle school student,i like english and study well, speak welll, write well and beautiful.
As time goes by……my english is getting worse and worseTOT
So,i'm not sure if there anyone could understander what i said……
Thx for giving me a chance to practise ,maybe to improve^^
Gracias~~

Re: Ziggi
Yeap, I like this song.  Thanks for sharing this beautiful song with us.   I'm not so sure of HULA BALULA.  Perhaps this is less common in our place.

English language was one of my favourite subjects in school, so as English Literature.
I used to communicate with people only in English.  However, after the reunification in 1997, people tend to speak more in Putonghua and write in Chinese.
I have also forced myself learning Putonghua by watching CCTV and listening to Beijing radio programmes.   Surfing around iChenkun is also a good source of learning native Chinese although I don't
understand everything the fans write  :P

To me, learning a language is not easy, especially when we don't have many chances for practice.
Let's take this as the channel of learning and practicing our written English!

Yes, I agree.  It is very hard for an adult to spend a foreign language without any his/her hometown accent.  But, I think it is OK for him to being like that in the Show.  Because he is acting as a foreign student in Canada, not a local born Chinese.

Hi Apple,
It was very thoughtful to type bigger letters in, which size did you choose?

How nice to see people come from the same country, haha. I've never been Lindfield, but it's acctually not far from my house. I always shopping at Chatswood, which is closer to Lindfield. I just love Chatswood shopping environment. It's not as busy as City, but with huge Westfield, Hoyts, fashion shops and plenty of parking spots.
I take trains rarely, as we don't have train lines in Neutral Bay, we take buses if go to City.
Yeap, Harbour Bridge is fascinating, sometimes I go to Milson's Point to play in the Luna Park and view the scene of Harbour Bridge, the sea and the Opera House. Milson's Point is quite close to me, only takes 5 mins to drive to there, and the landscape is so pretty.
Is Lindfield close to Kuring-gai National Park? I've been there twice.:) :handshake

Hi Ziggi,
No, I didn't c any wild whale or dolphin, actually I took the ferry quite late, in the evening after I took off from work ..But I'm glad at least I got a chance 2 walk around the Darling Habour...So, when did u moved 2 AU? Do u like it there better than China? Most of my friends r from Beijing, ShangHai, ZhongShan n HongKong. Oh man I really wish I can work in Beijing sometime..u know I just feel sad, as a Chinese I really want 2 visit the mainland China..
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Jade,

I've been living in Sydney for 5 years, but go back to China once a year in my holidays for about 4 weeks. I couldn't stay too long as I normally apply for 35 days visiting visa from Chinese Embassy. It's hard to compare the 2 countries. When I'm in AU, I miss China, but when I'm in China, I miss AU. Most of my friends and colleagues are non-Chinese background, most of them are Aussies, they are nice people. Even though I would like to have more Chinese friends as well, but probably because I'm living in the suburb which has more local people, so it makes hard to find Chinese people to be friends.
Sorry, could I ask a private question? If you worked in somewhere else outside of your country (the country that you've got citizen from), how did you apply for a long period visa from Chinese Embassy? Is it easy to get? What's the longest period for you to stay?
Thanks very much in advance.:) :pj_040

Do you guys like the future US president Barack Obama? Let's know more about him! :)

Biography for
Barack Obama
Date of Birth
4 August 1961, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA

Birth Name
Barack Hussein Obama Jr.

Nickname
Barry
Bama
Rock
The One

Height
6' 1½" (1.87 m)

Mini Biography
Barack Obama was born to a white American mother, Ann Dunham, and a black Kenyan father, Barack Obama, Sr., who were both young college students at the University of Hawaii. When his father left for Harvard, she and Barack stayed behind, and his father ultimately returned alone to Kenya, where he worked as a government economist. Barack's mother remarried an Indonesian oil manager and moved to Jakarta when Barack was six. He later recounted Indonesia as simultaneously lush and a harrowing exposure to tropical poverty. He returned to Hawaii, where he was brought up largely by his grandparents. The family lived in a small apartment - his grandfather was a furniture salesman and an unsuccessful insurance agent and his grandmother worked in a bank - but Barack managed to get into Punahou School, Hawaii's top prep academy. His father wrote to him regularly but, though he traveled around the world on official business for Kenya, he visited only once, when Barack was ten.

Obama attended Columbia University, but found New York's racial tension inescapable. He became a community organizer for a small Chicago church-based group for three years, helping poor South Side residents cope with a wave of plant closings. He then attended Harvard Law School, and in 1990 became the first African-American editor of the Harvard Law Review. He turned down a prestigious judicial clerkship, choosing instead to practice civil-rights law back in Chicago, representing victims of housing and employment discrimination and working on voting-rights legislation. He also began teaching at the University of Chicago Law School. Eventually he ran as a Democrat for the state senate seat from his district, which included both Hyde Park and some of the poorest ghettos on the South Side, and won.

In 2004 Obama was elected to the U.S. Senate as a Democrat, representing Illinois, and gained national attention by giving a rousing and well-received keynote speech at the Democratic National Convention in Boston. In 2008 he ran for president as a democrat and won. He is set to become the 44th president of the Unites States and the first African-American ever elected to that position.

Barack's Biography

Barack Obama Bio
Current United States Senator (Illinois), Future President

Barack Obama has dedicated his life to public service as a community organizer, civil rights attorney, and leader in the Illinois state Senate. Obama now continues his fight for working families following his recent election to the United States Senate.

Obama became a senator on January 4, 2005. Senator Obama is focused on promoting economic growth and bringing good paying jobs to Illinois. Obama serves on the important Environment and Public Works Committee, which oversees legislation and funding for the environment and public works projects throughout the country, including the national transportation bill. He also serves on the Veterans' Affairs Committee where he is focused on investigating the disability pay discrepancies that have left thousands of Illinois veterans without the benefits they earned. Senator Obama will also serve on the Foreign Relations Committee.

During Barack Obama's seven years in the Illinois state Senate, Obama worked with both Democrats and Republicans to help working families get ahead by creating programs like the state Earned Income Tax Credit, which in three years provided over $100 million in tax cuts to families across the state. Obama also pushed through an expansion of early childhood education, and after a number of inmates on death row were found innocent, Senator Obama enlisted the support of law enforcement officials to draft legislation requiring the videotaping of interrogations and confessions in all capital cases.

Obama is especially proud of being a husband and father of two daughters, Malia, 7 and Sasha, 4. Obama and his wife, Michelle, married in 1992 and live on Chicago ’s South Side where they attend Trinity United Church of Christ.

Barack Obama was born on August 4th, 1961, in Hawaii to Barack Obama, Sr. and Ann Dunham. Obama graduated from Columbia University in 1983, and moved to Chicago in 1985 to work for a church-based group seeking to improve living conditions in poor neighborhoods plagued with crime and high unemployment. In 1991, Obama graduated from Harvard Law School where he was the first African American editor of the Harvard Law Review.

No, I did not vote for Obama.  I did not vote for anybody this time because I did not like any of them.
In US, almost each big company announced lay off recently.   I should be more careful to get on the internet during working hours ha...

I like the topic about "lavender" more, I love the smell, too.  I just bought a bottle of Lavender bath salt, does anybody know how many amount shall I put in the bath tub?  Thx.

lavender ! I would like to say something, hahaha
radio,if you just put the whole bottle of lavender salt into your bath, then you could talk like Marilyn Monroe:" I wear lavender on bed only " kakakakaka;P

few days ago I tavelled to  a tourists' mountain villa where famouse for lavender, however, the lavender doesn't smell anything!!!:'(
what's more, the taste of the  lavender icecream is awful.
my  disappointment was complete.
is any body know more about  lavender ? I like this topic too.

by the way,
Today I read the newspaper that  talked about people had sushi or shashimi once then infect liver fluke. This is a serious insidious disease. If people ignore infection, it might cause cirrhosis, gall-stone, liver cancer.  Within a month,Some people might have an excruciating pain in the belly and  high fever.70% of people who infect liver fluke doesn’t have any clear early symptoms. So scary!! :o
Be careful the way use chopping block, should separate for raw and cooked. Also, if you have cut of your hand do not touch raw meet, since it will infect other disease through your cut.

have a nice weekend! ciao~~

Thanks Ziggi. I remember Kun loves lavender too and he said the lavender is a beautiful name. I got this nickname because of him. And there is a romantic town named Provence in southern France. Provence is famous for wines and flowers, esp. of lavender blooming in Aug. every year.

I can’t vote for Obama because I’m not a US resident. I just watched the US presidential debate and I admire him for his personality and debating skills. He looks confident instead of aggressive, creative but steady, so I hope he’ll be a good president to stand for the whole national benefits and help American economic recovery.

Oh, my! It IS serious. I know it is said that there are some vermin in the shashimi (we call it salmon, don't know are they the same thing?),sounds horrible. I'd better quit salmon then. But the other kinds of sushi should be alright I think. I love sushi and always make some by myself, normally I put cucumber, Japanese raddish(light yellow colour) and BBQ chicken inside, my Aussie friends love them too. So, I always make sushi for parties cauz it's easy to make and easy to eat as well, like kind of finger food, really suitable for parties.
Thanks for your suggestion. Definitely, we should always use seperate chopping board to prevent any infections. I've had some classes/workshops about Safe Food Handling and Infection Control, they have lots of practical ideas about this topic. If you interested in it, I could share some of my hand outs with you guys here. :loveliness: :pj_040

That sounds creepy!  Me and my husband normally have dinners at Japanese restaurants 2 or 3 times a week.  The Japanese foods with very low cholesterol content and is practically free from the saturated (“bad”) fats abundantly present in red meat, dairy produce and butter. Instead, the Japanese diet abounds in seafood: fish, rich in polyunsaturated (“good”) fats, and the seaweeds Kombu (from warm waters) and Nori (from cold waters) .These contain high amounts of iodine as well as minerals and microelements which are both healthy.

Like Ziggi, I make sushi by myself at home as well.  I love making Las Vegas Roll, I normally put tuna, crab meat, avocado and cream cheese with panko crumbs outside, deep fried it, serve with eel sauce... so yummy!

I like Japanese seaweed salad too, which is a really good food for losing weight!

Thanksgiving is next week, Turkey is the traditional dish on Thanksgiving's dinner table.  Would you please tell us, have you ever had turkey?  And, how do you like it?
作者: Marilyn    时间: 2008-11-20 11:56
I never liked turkey, I'd rather sit over there and only eat the gravy, stuffings and cranberry sauce.... haha... however Thanksgivng and Christmas are my husband's favorite holidays... he loves turkey breast and ham! It's always his job and duty to cook the turkey for the whole family each year. We will fly to my mother in law's home for Thanksgivng next weekend and for sure, my husband will cook the poor birdy again.

BTW, he has tons of turkey recipes, got most of them from American Food Network!
作者: radiowoman    时间: 2008-11-20 12:12
Thanks, Marilyn!

My sons vote to eat Turkey this year. So, I have to deal with this bird for the 1st time.  After checking around, I decided to buy a smoke Turkey in Costco and order the side dishes, bread, gravy, deserts from the local restaurant.  Thou, it is a little bit cheating, but at least, it won't ruin out our Thanksgiving dinner.

Well, have fun and enjoy your turkey dinner, girls.:D

Dear Ziggi, I just checked from websites:

Thanksgiving Day in Canada is celebrated on the second Monday in the month of October every year. Canada celebrates Thanksgiving Day a month earlier than in American.

Thanksgivng day is a National day in Australia, it occurs in March for 3 or 4 days .

Date of Thanksgiving Day varies every year and several countries celebrate it in different time of the year. :D
