澳大利亚田径队以前表示过，说北京空气污染太严重，他们为了保证运动员体质，决定住在香港和日本训练，到比赛前才去北京。而且有一批队员都呆在了香港，没参加开幕式。昨天yahoo头版报道，那些运动员说，他们之所以没去参加开幕式，是不知道政府是否给出机票，也不知道到底是否被允许去？现在他们都后悔了，错过那么好的开幕式，只有在香港守着电视机看。所以他们都把矛头指向负责的官员。估计是看到开幕式这么好，都傻眼了。;P


Confusion over opening ceremony

Dozens of Australian Olympians may have missed out on attending last week's opening ceremony because of confusion over who was to pay for their flights and whether they were allowed to go.

The track and field, sailing and equestrian teams were all based outside Beijing during last Friday night's spectacular and watched the event on television.

However, 10 sailors flew to the Chinese capital from their event site at Qingdao, and 400m runner Sean Wroe left the athletics training camp in Hong Kong to take part.

Heptathlete Kylie Wheeler said she was keen to join the athletes' march at the ceremony, but the 41-strong athletics team, the majority of whom are first-time Olympians, were told by Athletics Australia they were not allowed to attend.

Three-time Olympian, shot putter Justin Anlezark, said he believed an athlete could only attend if they paid their own way.

However, the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) confirmed it had paid for Wroe's flight to Beijing.

Athletics Australia boss Max Binnington denied deception and put it down to confusion with the track and field competition not getting underway until Friday and most athletes are arriving in Beijing this week.

"I think in many cases they become overwhelmed by information so it's not surprising that there can be some confusion around these things," he said.

An AOC spokesperson in Qingdao told AAP the Beijing Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (BOCOG) had paid for the sailors' return flights.

But in Hong Kong Australian equestrian team manager Brett Mace said two riders had asked to go but were told the policy was the riders weren't allowed to go because it would have left their horses at the competition venue in Hong Kong for two days.

Asked about the policy, AOC president John Coates initially thought Wroe had paid his own way but had to be corrected by AOC media director Mike Tancred.

Coates then said it appeared Wroe had activated his AOC flights to Beijing and official accreditation early, and decided not to return to Hong Kong.

"It's news to me that that was an option for all of them," he told reporters.

Faced with this knowledge, Wheeler, competing at her second Olympics, said she would have preferred to be in Beijing.

Wroe had arrived at the training venue in Hong Kong a week earlier than the rest of the athletics team.

Wheeler said Wroe's attendance at the opening ceremony had not divided the track and field team, but it had certainly provoked discussion.

Coates said they encouraged athletes to march but also highlighted the ordeal and difficulties of a very long night and discouraged those who were competing the next day.

"In the case of track and field though, they determined to have this camp and come in now, and it was their call," he said.

"We don't interfere with that preparation period and those decisions.

"It's a matter for them to work out if they're happy to have exceptions or not."

The Olyroos soccer team has been in Shanghai, where it has been competing since the day before the Games opened.

华天是国际马术联和会注册的第一位中国马术三项赛骑手，也是第一位代表中国参加国际马术三项赛比赛的骑手。因为母亲身为英国人的缘故，华天在从中国到英国后曾经拥有英国护照，但是在决定代表中国征战明年的北京(搜吧)奥运会后，华天决定放弃英国护照，重新加入中国国籍，征战2008年北京奥运(搜吧)。

运动生涯
1994年，居住在北京仅5岁的华天就在北京的马术俱乐部开始了马术的学习。 1996年迁往香港(搜吧)的华天成为香港马会会员，在香港参加青少年马术训练和比赛。 1999年，10岁的华天第一次在香港参加香港青少年马术三项赛一日赛。 2000年华天移居英国，在那里继续进行马术的训练和比赛。 2003年14岁的华天凭借优秀的比赛成绩成为职业马术三项赛骑手，一般情况下这样的职业骑手资格要16周岁后才能提出申请。 2004年华天就读于以“精英摇篮”闻名世界的英国著名贵族学校“伊顿公学”，那里造就过19位英国的首相，也是英国王子威廉和哈里的母校。 2006年放弃英国国籍，正式成为中国公民。 2007年6月华天决定休学至08年6月，全力为北京2008年奥运会马术三项赛做准备。

这个说是要代表中国形象，出于大局和各方面的考虑，也不是不能理解，而且是征求了杨家的同意的，
说出来这个事实的也是我们的总导演之一，面对记者时自己说到的，并没有想瞒天过海。。。

LIN MIAOKE, 9, the Chinese girl in the red dress who captured the world's hearts when she sang solo during the Olympic opening ceremony, is the hottest child star on the planet.

However, the voice the world heard singing so sweetly was not Lin's. It was a pre-recording of another child, Yang Peiyi, 7, who was dropped from the opening ceremony at the last minute in the "national interest". The switch happened at the behest of a member of China's politburo.

The general music designer of the opening ceremony, Chen Qigang, told Beijing Radio he owed the nation an explanation and he wanted to ensure Yang's contribution was recognised.

Mr Chen said the original choice for the lead was a 10-year-old girl, who was used throughout the rehearsals for Friday's opening extravaganza but she was dumped after the director, Zhang Yimou, deemed her "a little too old".

A group of younger girls was then shortlisted, including Lin and Yang. After recording them, Mr Chen's team unanimously decided Yang's sweet voice was "flawless" and that she would sing the lead. However, at the final rehearsals a member of China's ruling nine-man politburo made his dissatisfaction with Yang clear.

There were rumours at the time of the rehearsals that unspecified, last-minute changes had been ordered by the senior leadership.

"We had been through several inspections; they were all very strict. When we rehearsed at the spot, there were spectators from various divisions, especially a leader from the politburo, who gave us his opinion: it must change," Mr Chen said.

"The reason was for the national interest. The child on camera should be flawless in image, internal feelings, and expression. Lin Miaoke is excellent in those aspects, but in the aspect of voice, Yang Peiyi is flawless, in each member of our team's view."

Mr Chen said Lin may not have realised she was not singing, as her voice was similar to Yang's.

In an interview with the national broadcaster CCTV, Yang, the little girl's whose appearance was rejected, stoically said she had no regrets.

"I am satisfied that my voice appeared in the opening ceremony," she said.

A 'netizen' who posted Yang's picture and her comment on an official Chinese online forum wrote: "Every child, when he or she comes into the world, is hand-led by God. There is no ugly child."

Meanwhile, Lin's father a photojournalist for Beijing's Legal Evening News, told local media he found out his daughter would be singing the lead only 15 minutes before the opening ceremony. The China Daily had quoted the "nine-year-old songbird" Lin as saying she was thrilled mostly "because I felt so beautiful in my red dress".

Lin, who will return to school soon, her parents say, is a well-recognised face who appeared in a television advertisement with the reigning Olympic champion hurdler Liu Xiang last year and earlier this year featured in an advertisement for the Games.

After her captivating performance on Friday, The New York Times ran her picture on its front page and she has been inundated with offers within China.

The little girl who starred at the Olympic opening ceremony was miming and only put on stage because the real singer was not considered attractive enough, the show's musical director has revealed.

Pigtailed Lin Miaoke was selected to appear because of her cute appearance and did not sing a note, Chen Qigang, the general music designer of the ceremony, said in an interview with a state broadcaster yesterday.

Photographs of Lin in a bright red party dress were published in newspapers and websites all over the world and the official China Daily hailed her as a rising star yesterday.

But Chen said the girl whose voice was actually heard by the 91,000 capacity crowd at the Olympic stadium during the spectacular ceremony was in fact seven-year-old Yang Peiyi, who has a chubby face and uneven teeth.

"The reason why little Yang was not chosen to appear was because we wanted to project the right image, we were thinking about what was best for the nation," Chen said in an interview that appeared briefly on the news website Sina.com before it was apparently wiped from the internet in China.

Lin was seen to perform the patriotic song "Ode to the Motherland" as China's national flag was carried into the stadium, a key moment in the three hour ceremony.

"The reason was for the national interest. The child on camera should be flawless in image, internal feelings, and expression," said Chen, a renowned contemporary composer and French citizen.

"Lin Miaoke is excellent in those aspects. But in terms of voice, Yang Peiyi is perfect, each member of our team agreed," he said.

He said the final decision to stage the event with Lin lip-synching to another girl's voice was taken after a senior member of China's ruling Communist Party politburo attended a rehearsal.

"He told us there was a problem that we needed to fix it, so we did," he said, without disclosing further details of the order.

The Beijing Olympic organising committee confirmed the episode with spokesman Sun Weide saying the decision was taken in the interests of providing the best possible show.

"A number of girls were on the short list for the show and Lin was the best actress while Yang had the best voice," he said. "So at the end of the day they decided to have both."

The ceremony directed by China's Oscar-nominated filmmaker Zhang Yimou and featuring more than 15,000 performers won high praise in China and overseas for its breadth, scope and flawless execution.

However criticism began to build after it emerged that another part of the opening ceremony had been faked.

Supposedly live pictures of fireworks depicting footprints moving from central Beijing's Tiananmen Square to the Olympic stadium in the north of the capital were actually partly computer-generated or pre-recorded for TV, organisers have admitted.

Wang Wei, vice president of the organising committee, Tuesday insisted the fireworks had actually exploded on the night and that most of the television images used were genuine.

"However, because of the poor visibility of the night some previously recorded foots may have been used," he said.

Xiao Qiang, the director of the China internet project at the University of California at Berkeley and former dissident, said the two incidents illustrated the political nature of the Games for China.

"I do not think the Chinese state realises how unethical this is, they don't understand what kind of values they are reflecting," he said.

Earlier this year Olympic organisers preoccupied with the right image for the country were criticised for insisting that only tall, slim, young and attractive women could serve as medal award ceremony hostesses.
